One of our customers challenged us to provide a nut that would allow them to fasten against as cast aluminum without losing clamp load. Our solution was an encapsulated washer paired with a GRIPCO torque nut.
The washer mates against the aluminum component while the nut bearing surface rotates against the inside of the washer. Since the nut bearing surface is the smooth washer inside face, clamp load is maintained and vibrational loosening is prevented.
